Diabetic foot ulcers: treatment overview and cost considerations

Diabetic foot ulceration occurs primarily because of trauma to the foot in a patient with diabetes with either peripheral arterial disease (PAD), neuropathy, or both. In patients with neuropathy, the hallmark feature of such injury is a lack of pain. This lack of pain and awareness of injury causes the person to continue to mobilise on damaged tissue.
