Between a rock and a hard place

02 February 2021
Volume 5 · Issue 1

On the cover of this issue are the beautiful sandstone formations from Antelope Canyon in Arizona. The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon means “the place where water runs through rocks”. This fits in well with our theme of this special issue of Wound Central which is the challenging topic of hard-to-heal wounds. In this issue we have an array of innovative papers from around the globe. Our colleagues from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States take us through the process of bringing a wound product to market. Dr Serena and colleagues provide us with an interesting guide to credentialing. A large multicenter closed panel meeting from Australia, Spain and Switzerland discuss the role of ultrasonic-assisted wound debridement. From the Netherlands we have a systematic review on negative pressure wound therapy for patients with hard-to-heal wounds. Our Italian colleagues explore the role of electromedical devices in wound healing management. Our colleagues in the US provide us with an interesting systematic review about the impact of continuous electrical microcurrent on acute and hard-to-heal wounds. Our colleagues in China provide a retrospective analysis of vacuum sealing drainage with instillation in the treatment of necrotizing soft-tissue infection.
