Update from APWH

Volume 5 · Issue 2

The Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing is very pleased and proud to have been selected by the Journal of Wound Care's Wound Central as a main focus of this issue of the publication. The Academy was founded in 2011 and has grown tremendously in the past two years. APWH has approximately 1600 members to date and was originally founded solely to fulfill the needs of physicians practicing wound healing (MD, DPM, DO).

Certification is important and the organization you choose to become certified is equally important. There are many organizations to choose from and it is difficult to select which are better than others. The certification available for the APWH for MD, DPM and DO goes through our related organization Council for Medical Education and Testing (CMET). It was specifically designed with membership only representing physicians and an examination developed by physicians and for physicians. It is the largest most accepted physician specific organization in wound certification to date representing MD, DPM and DO. Additionally, the Academy offers certification specifically for advanced practice providers. That was developed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants only. Both certification processes have been beta tested for psychometric credibility, with each question statistically analyzed. This helps ensure the certification process is fair and balanced for a knowledge base consistent with daily practice. Additionally, CMET exam has stood the test of time being available first in 2008. You will find information on the APWH website. Additionally, physicians can find information on the APWH website or go to directly to COUNCILmet.org
